Dr. Zhang is an IET Fellow, an IAAM Fellow, and an IEEE senior member. His research interests are largely in emerging novel electromagnetics technologies where he has a special interest in dispersion engineering at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies. Dr. Zhang is the Vice Chair of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Shenzhen Chapter. He served as an associate editor of IEEE Access since 2017, a Lead Guest Editor of Int. J. Antennas Propag. from 2014 to 2015. He was the Publication Chair of 2016 IEEE ICCS, Local Organization Committee Co-Chair of 2017 IEEE EDAPS, TPC Co-Chair of Track 9 (Passive ICs and Active Antennas) in 2018 IEEE ICTA, TPC Co-Chair of 2019 CSQRWC, Track Chair of 2019 ComComAp, TPC Chair of 2021 CSQRWC, and General Chair of 2021 ComComAp. He also served as the TPC members of various international conferences, and also served in the review board of numerous journals in electromagnetics.

In light of his scientific record, Dr. Zhang received several scientific awards and recognitions from various technical societies and funding agencies, including "Shenzhen Overseas High-Caliber Personnel (Peacock Program B-Class) (深圳市海外高层次人才孔雀计划B类)" in 2014, Guangdong Natural Science Funds for Distinguished Young Scholar (广东省自然科学杰出青年基金) in 2015, "Shenzhen Nanshan Piloting Talents" (深圳市南山区领航人才) in 2016, "Guangdong Special Support Program" for Top-Notch Young Talents ("广东特支计划"科技创新青年拔尖人才) in 2017, URSI Young Scientist Award and ACES Young Scientist Award in 2018.
